Neil and I have had some exchanges about holding a silent auction. He
suggested that I take charge of it. I told him that I was tentatively
willing to run it, but before I committed myself, I wanted to talk to some
people who had experience in running them. I e-mailed Janaine Banks because
NEC used to have them at the annual convention. She explained to me that
they had given up the practice because they were such a hassle. They now do
"cash and carry" auctions like they did for the dry goods. They are easy to
run. All you need is an auctioneer, runners, people to move the items
forward, and a treasurer.> I would be willing to head this committee and
line up volunteers. Neil thinks he can get FAN to donate $100 - $200 worth
of aquatic plants.
