I think that depends on the judges. I give people the benefit of the doubt whether they can maintain an aquascape that is mostly stem plants. _UNLESS_ they are using stem plants in an obviously inappropriate manner. (like H. difformis as a ground cover... it happens<g>) But I also knocked a "Nature Aquarium" type tank in the ADA contest down quite a bit because the aquarist had stuck little frilly water sprites in here and there. It made a pretty "snap shot", but was clearly not maintainable in that form. Other judges didn't mark it down for that, though. So sometimes even the judges don't agree, or maybe sometimes don't KNOW what is sustainable and what isn't.
