I like that idea if Dave will go for it.

More to the point, I can almost guarantee that Dave won't.  Mary has made it
clear at every turn what she thinks of Dave... and Dave knows it.

I do agree that we need to come up with a positive spin for this if we do
it, and work very hard to give Mary a graceful way out.
