Just to be perfectly clear, I am proposing that we approach Dave with his
OWN original idea from 2 years back, namely that we:

  * include a subscription to PAM as part of the AGA membership package,
  * ask only for around 2 pages per issue for AGA "business"
  * can occasionally negotiate for more space if there's a reason
    (i.e. contest results).

I do not favor making PAM "an official publication of the AGA". I think
that Dave & co. are doing a reasonable job at their publication, and I
don't think we should muck with it. I think this was the problem we had
last time around; we were not comfortable in having someone else publish
"our magazine." I guess what I'm thinking is that we just accept that
it's not "ours", provide it as a service to our members, with this little
bit of space inside reserved for "our stuff".

In the SCUBA world, lately members of Divers Alert Network (DAN) have been
receiving copies of Skin Diver magazine. On the cover, the only
indication of what's up is a sticker that says "DAN Edition". But it's
pretty clear to me what's up -- DAN is now providing us issues of Skin
Diver as part of our membership. Fairly clear.

Likewise, if the thing with PAM doesn't work out, it is possible to cancel
the arrangement without killing off both.

I realize that you and Karen are very worried about how Mary feels.

I'd be careful here of trying to be nice at the sacrifice of
purpose. I think Mary was ineffective at coordinating things between
other AGA folks and TAG, which is why I have been proposing we replace her
for the past 6 months. Perhaps a decision to go with PAM could be spun in
such a way so as to smooth over this, but to turn this into "oh, it's just
a new policy, nothing else; would you like to stay on doing the job of
coordinating things between other AGA folks and PAM?" would be the exact
opposite of what we need.
