The grand prize, the All-Glass aquarium, may have been the only prize that actually was delivered, as I personally saw to that (and the unfortunate ensuing year-plus debacle of getting the money to the winner). > Year 2,3-the groups that collected donation, the AGA staff picked some > appropriate things for the contest prizes. I beleive we gave out a cash prize for best of show the second and third years. In addition, I supplemented the prizes with convention videotapes; I don't think we even had a full set of six prizes last year. Oh, and I also included a copy of the CD with the ribbons. > Year 4-this year, no prizes for the contest. Unfortunately, with what happened with the items this year, I have NO plans, other than to offer videotapes or DVDs of this year's convention. This, and the CDs and Ribbons, is all I have to offer. I was hurt by Larry's attitude when I asked him about it (and Bailin's complete lack of help), and frankly want nothing more to do with merch distribution this year. At this point, I don't think I'm going to ask for any $ for prizes. On the one hand, knowing how much we need to keep the treasury afloat, it's very difficult to ask the board for $300-500 for prizes for the winners. But on the other hand, it IS appropriate use of these convention funds---one of the minor draws for people may have been getting to see the winners announced at the banquet, and some of the donors may have thought they were donating to the contest and not the convention. Future: I agree with what Kathy says that we cannot ask for these items in separate pushes. I can also add that it's a sore point for the organizers. Even though Bailin was in charge of donations for BOTH events, I'm sure his heart was more in the convention, and I'll bet he never mentioned the contest to the other folks like Luis who were actually GETTING the donations. I suggest that there be included an agreement and explanation that the AGA WILL receive 6-7 merchandise donations, total not to exceed $300 retail, of the contest rep's choosing (for mailability). - Erik -- Erik Olson erik at thekrib dot com ------------------ To unsubscribe from this list, e-mail majordomo@thekrib.com with "unsubscribe aga-sc" in the body of the message.
