We seem to be getting off on a different trail here. Exciting, but different. The current "membership drive" ends August 31, 2004.The limit is four new issues of TAG. That is, no one, whether individual or business, will get more than one year's comped membership. If they get More Than Four, they get a free t-shirt.
What Robert is proposing is more of a mutual advertising deal, business to business. Just happens to be triggered by the membership drive, I guess.
I think we should give him the first 25 up front, and if he makes 200 we give him a full page ad sometime in 2005. And a t-shirt, just like everybody else. But I don't see the need to give him more than that.
Whether we want to turn this into another standing offer with a time limit of 12 months and other incentives, I think, is another issue. A really good idea, but beyond the scope of the current endeavor.

Why not offer him the ad as an added incentive? I agree it would be a good deal all around! Back issues are essentially taking up space at the moment. I would be happy to send him the first 25 even. If he got us 200 members, then 200 back issues would be an incredibly small price to pay. Frankly, if he hit the 200 mark, I'd be all up for giving him a 1-time free ad. I am skeptical he will be able to get 200, but I'd bet he could bring in 25 or 50 without too much trouble. - Erik On Wed, 19 May 2004, Karen Randall wrote:As long as we HAVE 200 back issues to spare without putting ourselves in short supply for other purposes, I see no problem with it, particularlyifhe's using these for promotional purposes as well. I thik dribblingthem tohim is not a good use of time or money, however. What about, as a good faith gesture on our part, we send him 25 back issues. When he gets 25NEWmembers (NOT renewals) send him another 25. I'd even be willing to go50 ata time if he can really use them. After all, we just plain GIVE RayLucasand Lee Finley back issues to help us promote the organization, so thisisnot completely without precedent. It's just that we're playing with a little more dangerous animal here.<g> I also think that keeping a close eye on Robert, as well as maintaininghisgood will are both in our best interests. BUT you know he ain't going to want something for nothing... He wants to know, if he gets us 200 new members, will we give him 200backissues of TAG, and he will send the back issues to stores and clubs as advertisements for AGA? Why? Robert says that he has been taking some heat lately from AGAmembersabout competing with the AGA and would like to advertise us as a goodfaithgesture. BUT nice gestures are no good as PR unless everyone knowsaboutit, right? Makes sense, I guess. So this way he gets to look good. He is sort of intimating that we might give him 1 back issue for each member he refers, but I think we should put a cap on this. On theotherhand, I don't want to dismiss him outright and cut off our nose tospiteour face. According to him, he has 2100 members in his forum.
