If he's not asking for anything but recognition, I say go for it. It is a good thing to have someone with the *responsibility* of taking photos, rather then whenever someone happens to think of it.
As long as we make it clear that we are still free to use others' photos on our web site and in TAG, I think this would be great.
And I think that if he does a good job at AGA2K4, we should comp his membership for 2005, TAG Volume 18.

OK, what do we do with this one? While we, of course, want to encourage participation, I am loath to give the title of "official" AGA photographer to any one person... particularly as we already have a number of good photographers among us. I also really like the fact that when we've put together the convention ohotos, we've used the best that everyone who wanted to contribute had to offer. That way, everyone feels good about their good pics. OTOH, his website layout is pleasing to look at, and easy to navigate. Would it work to ask him to help you, Erik, in doing the collecting and editing of photos, deciding which to use, and laying out a gallery for them? If not, could we use his skills in another way? I had a blast in Dallas but this year I feel like I want to participate bit more. Virginia/Maryland is too far to participate in hands on preparations so I try to spread the word as much as I can in local community. NJAS, where I'm a Plant Program Chairman, got a noticeable dose of AGA advertisement this year and I plant to continue to doso until November.I thought about an idea of creating a Convention Photographer position and I would like to nominate myself (shameless plug). I plan to attend AGA Conventions on annual basis so this could be an ongoing project. AGA upgraded technology level with multiple cameras, projections, conference equipment and last but not least CD vs. VHS burning. Why not upgrade Photo Gallery ?. You could see my photography skills on my website. There is a link on AGA website to my AGA'03 review article with attached pictures. Of course I'm not looking forcompensation but rather recognition and satisfaction. Not sure if Erik remembers me but I was the guy who took pictures with flash facing up and bouncing light off ceiling. We had a discussion about that. Karen should remember me from the Convention and emails between NJAS and January presentation. Scott should know me well as we are from the same neck of the woods. Ghazanfar, good friend of mine and with whom I discussed this idea, felt positive about this concept.
