But people really wouldn't be able to experience much in the way of success. 
I think that's a bad idea. (though those tanks could certainly also be used 
as "practice tanks".

I think, at that time, we thought that SF was actually planning on RUNNING a 
convention, and didn't want to be percieved as "taking over".  Now it is 
clear that the only way this is going to happen is if we guide things a 
little more directly.
