Steph,

I agree, sounds like spawning.  
ph six has worked for this complex for me, but 5 is better.  I wouldn't
change things now though, obviously the conditions were right to get them
to think of spawning....if the eggs aren't viable then mess with the
parameters.
Just my two cents.
