Hi Francine,
I've had luck wiping out blue green problems (one over a year old) by
simply leaving the tank dark for a week to ten days. Complex plants
bounce back quickly, and the fish don't mind. I would grow the fry a bit
on reduced light, then do the algae in later.
I grow crypts, anubias and bolbitis though - all low light plants.
