RE: What's the point !! ph etc.

Phil,

I kept Jewels with Kribs about 10 years ago, and it worked out fine ...
Until the jewels started to spawn. I had them in a 30, and they started
really tearing up the kribs mercilessly. Then I moved them all to a 75 with
alot of structure and cover. They did just fine. In fact, I raised batches
of fry from the jewels, Kribs, Rainbow chiclids, and Convicts all from the
same tank, at the same time. (I pulled the fry at 1 week free swimming.) The
Convicts were the meanest of the bunch, and I eventually had to remove them,
but since there was quite a bit of room, they seemed to get along okay. I
even had austrailian rainbows in the tank, and a few of their fry actually
survived to adulthood. I didn't even know they were spawning!

Now, I appreciate the individual species more in their own tanks with a few
dithers. They can relax a little more and show their stuff without the
threat of an intercontinental cousin beating the tar out of them! They are
all great fish though. Too bad you can't have all that color in the same
tank!

By the way, if you have a pair in there, chances are they will spawn
eventually, almost inspite of how the water is!

My jewels are very docile even though they are twice the size of the kribs.
