I don't know where he got this idea. There is very little study of gut contents
in apistos. These fish are basically opportunistic feeders, taking whatever comes
along. As I recall the few studies out there show that they eat mostly small
aquatic crustaceans and insect larvae supplemented by fish scales and vegetable
detritus.
