Re: Tonics, Peats, and Buffers

The only thing I have ever used is peat moss from the Garden Center. I throw
a few handfulls in each of 3, 5-gallon pails and let it soak for a few days
and then siphon it out through a fine fish net and also a brine shrimp net
all at the same time. I refill the pails with Ro water and can use the same
peat 3 or 4 times. The pH is around 5.5 and I mix it half and half with
untreated RO water. I have bred T. candidi & Ctenopoma ansorgii by this
method. The bales of peat moss are a lot cheaper than any store bought
pre-mixed solution.
