doesn't those worm require an host to propagate?
Often the snails present in you tanks are doing a great job to spread the
disease. Than, putting your fish in a tank containing only water and
treating them with medication should give read of the worms. The
"intermediate stage" of the worms present in snails in your planted tank
would then die after 2 or 3 weeks since no host are present anymore for them
to go in and reproduce again.
But, i'm not a veterinarian either so, that may not be applicable in that
case.
