Re: profile as substrate

Neither is telling lies, you're just misinterpreting the result!
GH and KH are "true" measures of water hardness, i.e. the content of
disolved MINERALS in the water, the TDS meter measures all disolved
substances in your wate, including non mineral elements, that can mean,
for example, the various forms of oxidised iron, various acidic
components etc. which is why you're getting what appear to be
conflicting results. Note that as you get closer, and into, your
substrate you should find that there are some widely varying results. I
would think that your measurements are pretty well fine, maybe still
a 'bit' hard, but certainly nothing to worry about and I wouldn't
expect your fish to have probs, it's just that Amazonian water can have
0 hardness, something which can be difficult to reach and maintain
safely in an aquarium.
This is my understanding of the differences between TDS and hardness,
PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, I hate to diseminate false info.
