Your water is a little higher pH, but a little softer than the water in our area, and I know that trifasciata and cruzi have been spawned successfully and relatively easily here. I've done trifasciata a number of times. I'm pretty sure the Mamore's have been done as well, right Z-man?. Of course, the eggs and fry are stronger with more appropriate water conditions, but it can be done. Your peat filtration sounds fine, but I would make sure to do the same to the water used for water changes, or make small, frequent changes. One way to pick - I presume that your LFS is using similar tapwater in their selling tanks. So - take a look at the fish in the tanks - do they look healthy and active? They probably won't look spawny if there alot of them in the tank, but they should still be active. I would select on that, overall size and quality of the fish, and my personal interests. I was at my favorite LFS the other day, and saw that they have 3 different spp of apistos to chose from. They are A. sp. cruzi, A. trifasciata, and A. sp. Mamore red. I am wondering which would be the easiest to keep with minimal adjustment to my tap water. It's kind of hard, and has a high pH (last time I messured was around 145ppm and pH 8). I filter over peat to reduce the hardness and pH, and that's all. So, I'm just wondering which one, you guys would suggest, or should I just get a pair of each? LOL. Thanks ===== J.
