Hi Mike, Yes, this is a new e-mail address. Excite got weird. I have breed them 3 times. There is a forth in the making. In a 20 gal tank there I keep a trio. The male pretty much stays in the center of the tank between the nesting sites of the females. The fish lay their eggs in the typical apisto manner. However, once the fry become wrigglers and while they are free swimming, the females will pick the fry up in their mouths and move away. Swimming around with the fry until the danger, namely me, goes away. The initial spawn is still in the tank. These fish hide in the floating plants most of the time. The females are the only fish bothered by their presence. The male doesn't really seem to mind them at all. The rainwater comes in at 6.0, but I have lowered it to about 5 or so. The temp fluctuates between 78 and 80 degrees. The feedings consist of blackworms, mosquito larvae and brineshrimp. Occasional flakes are added.
