Re: Insight and experiences requested
Hi Ken
I have kept T. brichardi a number of times over the years, the last time I
managed to get a few babies. I bought 8, 4 pairs and placed 2 pairs in a soft
water acid 40 long tank and 2 pairs in a tap water (pH 7.4, DH 10) 55. The
pairs in the 40 died within 2 days. The pairs in the 55 which had a few PVC
tubes and a few flower pots and was filtered by an old Whisper filter and
undergravel filter. One pair survived. The store where I bought them had 2
females left so I bought these and added them to the 55. The female killed
them.
The pair seemed to get along fairly well and were very visible. The tank was
at the door of my fishroom. They would both greet me when I walked in. They
never bothered any other fish in the tank, even Corys.
One day I saw 2 tails sticking out of one small PVC tube. I realized they
were upside down and thought they were spawning. The male stuck out at both
ends. I pulled the tube when they finished and saw 16 large eggs stuck on the
roof of the tube. I managed to raise 4 which turned out to be 2 pairs which I
gave away. The pair spawned a few more times and I left them alone and never
got another fry. I fed them as I do all my fish, flakes and frozen brine with
weekly live brine.
I think I lucked out in getting a compatible pair since this was the first
time I was able to keep both sexes in the same tank. I had been able to keep
2 males or 2 females together but if both sexes were there, I ended up with
one. Good Luck & I'd like some babies.
