RE: the golden rams

hi teresa,
no worries, they are no borring questions!
Is that the first time that this pair spawned? Had fry?
Taking them out is a way to be sure to get some fry but i am really into
letting the parents take care of their young. Fish are not really smart and
don't go to school or read books to learn. Their way of learning is to watch
their parents and other fish behaving and copying, experimenting even
sometime inovating something not yet done by any other fish in the tank.
That's why i'm leaving the parents taking care of the fry. How do you want
young fish to take care of their futur fry if they were not rise themselves
by their own parents. OK, this might not be an issue for the first
generation, maybe, but will happen soon or later.
Just look Angel fish: i breed them for a long time and only few pairs were
able to really take good care of their fry from A to Z, and those were F1.
So, sorry no to give you recepies to artificialy raise fish, but it is worth
the try to let the parents do their job, especially if you are not
interested in mass production for sell.

Most of my young pairs seemed clumsy for their first spawn, being able to
save only a few of them. The second and 3rd spawn are generally succesful.
This might not apply to every fish so. Especially golden ram will be far
from wild string so, maybe artificailly rising the fry is the solution.

just my point of view.
take care

Hello, the rams have wigglers this morning so they must be fertile at least.
I must ask really boring questions as hardly anyone answers me. I still
would like to know how hard it would be to steal the eggs from the rams and
raise them as opposed to putting them in a separate tank and letting the
parents do it. And also what will the fry look like, all golden, some
golden
some blue? Thanks, Teresa
