Re: How many apistos?

Alfredo,

Your tank is really too small for more than one pair of Agassizis or cacatuoides, not both. You could keep a trio of trifasciata or Borelli, but that's about the most I would try. Dwarf cichlids are not quite the murderous monsters that some of their larger cousins are, but they can be very aggressive, especially at spawning time.

Sorry to convey bad news, but your tank is not large enough for the fish to get away from each other, if one individual decides to get mean. You'll have a happier experience, as will your fish, if you limit yourself to one pair.

In my experience, the easiest apistos are rotpunkt, borelli, cacatuoides and eunotus. But just about every apisto-keeper you ask will come up with a different list.

Best,

Scott

Hi all
Here goes a newbie question.

I have a 80L aquarium prepared to receive apistogrammas: well planted, 28ºc,
lots of hiding places, etc.
I would like to know which and how many apistogrammas I should add to this
setup? Do you suggest harem species or monogamous ones. And which ones are
best to begginers, including those which are easy-to-breed ones in a 80L
aquarium.
I was thinking of adding 1 couple of A. agassizi and another of A.
cacatuoides. Is there a better begginer species?
To fill the aquarium with fishes, I was thinking of 6 tetra neons, 4
killies. Is this alright? Which species do you advise me?

Thanks a lot

Alfredo
