I think Mike has adequately explained the major parts of the problem.
The other
part is flame wars over proper identification of fish offered for sale.
In many
species of apistos 2 or more 'forms' come in under the same name. We had
problems
in the past where one aquarist sold a fish called Apisto sp. X, but the
buyer
received a fish he didn't think was X. Then flaming begins over "bait &
switch"
practices. The problem with this is that both parties are usually
justified, in
part. We can do without these problems on the list. Such problems should
be left to
personal emails, but many times are not.

I have no problem with people mentioning that they have had some species
spawn &
need to move them. What I don't want is price lists of species for sale.
If you
have a web site where you sell fish I have no problem with adding it
below your
name when replying to messages on the list, either. But I don't want to
see emails
that just promote a price list. Just my 2¢.
