Re: apisto melgar

Teresa,

A. sp. Nanay (Melgar) is a cruzi-like fish that is probably the same as A. sp.
Orangestreifen / Orange-stripes introduced in 1985 by Ingo Koslowski. It is not
the same as the fish that Römer introduced in Germany as A. sp. Nanay. His fish
is the same as A. sp. Papagei / Parrot. A. sp. Nanay (Melgar), as its name
suggests, comes from the Rio Nanay (Picuro Yacu del Nanay & Quebrada Mazancillo).
The Nanay is a blackwater river. Nanay (Melgar) was collected in water with a pH
of 5 - 5.5 & a conductivity of 10 - 15 µS/cm. As such, they should be kept and
bred in water similar to A. bitaeniata.

There is another fish from the same area that is probably the same species, just
a different color form. This fish shows a bright red ring around the outer orb of
the eyes. It has a more yellowish base color, faint stripes in the center of the
caudal fin, & more prominent abdominal stripes.
