Update - Female guarded eggs for two days and then started eating them this
afternoon. Eggs were pink and healthy. I've moved the ten remaining eggs to
a breeding trap to see how they fare.

Male did not seem to be a problem. I fed the pair without apparent problem.
So who knows? Maybe next time.
