This can be difficult, the male usually has more "spangles" and (I can't remember which) one of them is slightly deeper bodied. I bought six about six months ago and they were some of the most aggresive fish I'd ever had. One ended up dead the first day and another a couple of days later. I then tried them in pairs and ended up with two individual ones in separate tanks. I left them like that until I really needed a tank and put them together thinking that they'd probably kill each other, also not knowing whether I had a pair. You might understand my surprise when I discovered a week later that they had spawned and were being excellent parents. If I were you I'd keep them separated for at least a month and then try putting them together again. BTW The young are now about 2-3cm long and haven't shown such aggression yet but are starting to get very dominant and I'll have to move them to separate tanks or sell them.
