Sarah My experiences with wild fish brought me to the conclusion that no matter how long we quarantine we can never be sure we have rid ourselves of parasites. Because of this my philosophy was to breed them asap and get healthy tank bred babies. My evidence to support this claim comes from my many autopsies of wild fish, mainly Apistos. I am not saying you cant get wild fish to breed and live out their lives. I am just saying it is a form of russian roulette. Folks I am not here to trash wild fish. My intention is to encourage us to seek out tank bred fish when possable. Doesn't it make sense to get these fish and leave the wild populations alone when we can. I am not saying don't import wild fish. It important to out cross back to wild populations for genetic diversity and to get new color variations fixed etc. My point is Tank bred fish are a better choice in my book and we should encourage Apisto nuts to perhaps maintain such fish over time. I am proud of my Apistos that I have had going for a few years now. I feel a great sense of pride when I offer them at my local club auctions. Back to the point of quarantine perhaps some of the folks specializing in wild Apistos could elaborate on their quarantine protocols and what medications they are using for the education of the rest of us. I think this may be what Sarah was hinting at. I also think it would be a great chance to share knowledge and experiences on handling wild fish.
