My experience with these fish was to place them in a 10 gallon of their own
(hospital tank) with a fine layer of sand, sponge filter, and a couple of
live/plastic plants for hiding and I have the tank set up as straight R.O.
for a day or two for just this type of situation and feed only newly hatched
brine. I do this for ALL my apistos that start wasting away. My experience
with livebearers is a no-no for me in any tank as dithers because they are
the most susceptible fish to all kinds of diseases that can rapidly infect a
whole tank.

Just my 2 =A2 worth.
