Further (note the similarities): I have a tank set up for discus with a pH often <6 and temps >85, water is soft, reconstituted R.O.. Most Echinodorus Sp. grow well also Rotala macrandra, R. wallichii, hygrophila difformis, Cabomba caroliniana, many aponogeton sp. (mostly crispus, rigidifolius and ulvaceus hybrids). Anubias sp. and Vallisneria sp. do OK but not great. The ferns: Bolbitis heudelotii and Microsorium pteropus not at all. I've also had no luck i n that tank with Hygrophila sp. other than difformis. Problematic plants could be so due to parameters other than pH. Ed Hengel AGA >the pH although starting at 6.5 ends up at 5.5 to 4.5 depending on how long >it's been since the last change or addition of bicarb (it got down to 4.2 when >my discus spawned and i didn't want to disturb them. I have rotala macrandra >(very nice red color), large amazon swords, java ferns, Hygro polysperma >corymbosa, Heteranthera zosteraefolia, vallisneria (long and corkscrew), >Sagittaria (dwarf), apons and java moss. I use VHO (360 watts), and gravel >substrate. The temp is 81F because I keep discus in that tank. I don't think >it's the pH, it must be the lighting or something else missing. >Rich D'Ottavio -- Dave Gomberg, San Francisco mailto:gomberg@wcf.com http://www.wcf.com/wcf ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the apistogramma mailing list, apisto@majordomo.pobox.com.
