Has anyone used this with Apisto's and if so what dosage and for how long. What effect does it have of filter efficiency....? Until yesterday they were doing fine. I noticed one of them appears to have a reddening area along its back under the caudal fin. If anyone has any idea of how/why this may have developed, please let me know via email to wja70@hotmail.com (i no longer subscribe to this list because of the volume of mail i receive) Tank parameters are 10 gallon open top, lightly planted with one large hollowed out stump. pH is 6.8 moderate hardness, no CO2 no heat. Incandescent lighting 60W keeps the water approx 76 F. I did an emergency water change this morning just in case water quality was a question, but i do 3 gallon changes every other week so it shouldn't be a problem. I think it is probably too late for this fish, but I'd like some input so that i may be able to avoid the same problem with the other two or in the future. Date: Tue, 19 Jan 1999 18:18:30 -0500 In my hydroponics I have had a great deal of success with lettuce and tomatoes using acetic acid (household vinegar) for acidifying the water. I have found that it is very effective and does not tend to crash the pH in my solution. The hydroponic solution is of course better buffered (15KH) and contains a lot more dissolved salts than what any apisto should have to tolerate. Is there a good reason why I wouldn't want to do this in my blackwater apisto tanks? Has anyone tried it? Did it kill your plants? The advantage is of course the price and lack of toxicity (to people). The relatively mild acidity also makes it a lot easier to control. Thanks in advance for any help.
