Black Beach Sand

Is there anything special/recommendable about black beach sand ? The
Pacific coast of northern Central America has black volcanic beach sand.
Average particle size 0.5 mm, high Si content, abrasive (itīs sometimes
used to make cheap sanding paper). Iīve only used it once, a long time ago,
for a mangrove tank to keep young snook. Always thought it would be too
abrasive to keep small freshwater fish that dig or sift through the substrate.
