I've been scratching my head and dredging my memory on this. I've seen
it with West Africans too. Taeniatus, I believe, but it was just after I
switched from Tanganyikans quite a few years ago so I wasn't that
impressed. It would need confirmation from another source.
Apistogramma geisleri did this as well. To me, it makes sense that if a
pair is relatively unaggressive, then colonizing and breeding become the
same thing, stuffed into an aquarium. It's not behavior I've seen a
pattern with as with Tanganyikans, but it pops up now and then with
individual pairs.
