I've seen it with West Africans too. Taeniatus, I believe, but it was just after I switched from Tanganyikans quite a few years ago so I wasn't that impressed. It would need confirmation from another source. Apistogramma geisleri did this as well. To me, it makes sense that if a pair is relatively unaggressive, then colonizing and breeding become the same thing, stuffed into an aquarium.
