I've never had kribs but thanks for the warning :-)

Until recently I've kept mine pretty crowded (out of necessity) but things
seem to work out for them.  My smaller pairs keep a radius of about four
inches clear around the eggs/fry.

Right now they're split between a 40 gallon and a 75 gallon where they
finally have a reasonable amount of room.  I moved a few weeks ago from an
apartment into a house with a basement and I can finally start setting up
all the tanks I put away in storage years ago.
