Lately I have been reading every single section of TheKrib's apisto section. I came across a link devoted solely to, of all things, earthworm flakes. From what I read there, Dwarf Cichlids and other fish seem to really like them, but unfortunately these flakes are not as common as we'd all like. I was looking at the supplier's prices on this section, and I think I found a better one with better prices. I don't mean this to sound like a plug, its just that I think these flakes are quite neat, and I thought many of them would be great for Apistos. If this kind of thing is "against the rules", PLEASE notify me... I don't like upsetting people. I've been on eBay for a while now, and upon reading these messages about earthworm flakes I remembered that they had once been available from this guy on eBay whom I purchased some driftwood from. I emailed him, and here are his prices. He does take direct orders via email. You must send the money through the mail, though... no Credit Cards to my knowledge. But these prices are worth it I think. Earthworm Flake: 1/2 POUND (8oz) --- $7 1 POUND (16oz)---- $12 The man selling them is Walt Strand. He tells me these are fresh flakes because they are stored in a freezer. The only possible downside I can see at all is that the flakes have no preservatives, so keeping them refrigerated (or putting just a little bit in a film container and the rest in the freezer like I do). Then again, less preservatives seems tastier to me, and I have no problem with keeping most of the bag in the 'frige. It sure smells fresh... wheew! My fish seem to love them. I mean... feeding frenzy. The little Krib babies even take whole flakes and carry them around the whole tank... it's really cute. This guy also has some other interesting flakes. Odd ones. Like, you can have him custom-mix your own 5-in-one flake mix with (if I can remember!) Earthworm, Brine Shrimp, Spirulina, Egg (??is this healthy??) and... um... oh yeah, Color flakes. I take this to believe you can buy all these separately as well. The color flakes also seem very healthy... I think the ingredients were mostly Krill, Brine Shrimp, etc etc etc and then vitamins and minerals... something like that. I thought these flakes were interesting, so I thought the Apistolist may want to know about this source. His email address is wnstrand@uplogon.com . I guess you email him with your queries/orders. Shipping for me was not bad at all and there was no minimum order. Just thought I'd let you all know... maybe save some people money or find a new food or something. With all the variety, needless to say my pocketbook is hurting. ----- Now my questions :-) 1.) Is it generally hard to get Apistogramma to eat flake food... even if I can get it to sink? 2.) What is your favorite food (live, dry, or frozen) to feed Dwarf Cichlids? 3.) What is your Dwarfs' favorite food (as far as you can tell)? Thanks all... Have a good day. -- Derek Wingert ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the apistogramma mailing list, apisto@majordomo.pobox.com.
