While I am no ram expert, I'll throw my 0.02 in.  I totally agree with
finding juvenile specimens from a local breeder/club.  Rams were one of the
first cichlids I wanted to try and it took quite a while to find good
specimens.  (LFS got them from a breeder in FL).  They are doing great, and
spawn regularly for me. (Although I haven't gotten any fry yet).

Good luck with your rams.  They are great fish!

I would advise you try to otain juvenuile specimens from a local
breeder/club
auction.  They will be less stressed from shipping and will certainly not be
the low-quality stuff that often comes from Asia.
