RE: [GSAS-board] Library and New Ideas

Well, that is fine, but I believe Kate wants to use her killifish painting
for the killifish club now. So, if you want to use her painting, I suggest
you work it out with her on your own.

Two months ago, the board discussed at length during the November board
meeting both the T-Shirt design and the logo. At that time, we voted to
proceed with the T-Shirt design as documented in the November meeting
minutes. We also agreed that we did NOT want to change the logo.

Because of Susan's email just before last Thursday's board meeting (the
December meeting) where Kate's ideas for putting the T-Shirt design to a
vote before the full membership, and changing the logo were forwarded to the
board list, it went on the board meeting agenda again. Although the
December minutes have not yet been completed or published, they do/will
reflect that the board members present UNANIMOUSLY voted to proceed with the
previously approved T-Shirt design, NO club-wide contest, and NO CHANGES to
the logo. Because of Kate's odd statement to "see if Rick will go for
that," I will add that Bob made this motion and Sandu Seconded it.

I hope that the fact that the board does not agree with you on the specifics
of the T-Shirt design (and logo) have not taken all the joy out of the
project for you. Your idea to have a custom T-Shirt created for the club is
a good idea that the entire board is supporting. We voted to proceed
quickly so as to have the shirts available at the February Plant Auction.
There were plenty of times, especially during my first year on the board,
that I was in the minority on an issue. You, as I did, have passionately
defended your position. But, in the end, when the board takes a vote that
vote must be honored and the matter settled.

A lot of logos have gone through improvements over the years in big
recognizable corporations. And, about the only time people really see the
logo, is on the website. It's not on our checks or on our receipts, and we
are not a huge international corporation, so I don't think it is a big deal
to change it.

I agree with Paul. A logo must have continuity. Maybe it's not the absolute
perfect logo, but it strongly evokes our particular Northwest Indian
folklore. I would suggest the club to continue to use it.
