Re: Head injury?

Thanks for your response Steev.

I just tested the pH it was 7.0, the temp is 76 F and I did a water change on
Sunday, but will
do another one tomorrow.

Do you have a brand name of food that I should try? I mostly feed a variety
Hikari dry foods.
I have loaches and glass catfish in the current tank, but I have a quarantine
tank set up, I'd
be willing to move him and treat him if you think that would help. How much
salt should I add
per gallon? Or maybe just leave him in his tank and add a lower dose of salt?

Thanks again!

Michelle

: There may be some physical injuries involved but there may also be some
internal problems
caused
: by a chronic vitamin deficiency or some spontaneous malfunction (he is three
years old).
Patches
: of abnormally dark color on a gourami can be caused by either and are common
in those fish.
: Sometimes it is an injury along the lateral line that affects the nerves. I
would lean toward
the
: vitamin deficiency idea because of the tail-drooping you described. These
guys have the swim
: bladder in the back of the body to balance against the bubble they hold in
their mouth, so he
: probably is suffering from a swim bladder malfunction, the exact cause of
which usually
remains a
: mystery.
:
: If you want to try something you might start with some foods that are rich in
vitamins and
think
: about adding some minerals (maybe in the form of marine salt). And double
check the
temperature
: and pH as well as doing a water change just on general principles.
