Re: Tropheus Duboisi dying

Trish, where are you located? I hear from locals that people all over the Oly area are losing both marine and freshwater fish, something changed or was flushed in the local water system. Maybe they did a similar thing in your town. Here they apparently decided to double the amount of chlorine, maybe even switched to chloramine but nobody knows. Whatever it is it's really killing a lot of peoples' tanks. Reef tanks especially. In Portland you could be put on a special list of people to get emails if the city water deviated in any way from the norm, they would send alerts to people with compromised immune systems, fish stores, etc if you signed up. You can check your municipal site and get a link to the water bureau and email them to see if such a list exists for your town. The story about our water chemistry changing comes from two LFS guys here. I was wondering why the plants started to die in the big display tanks after the last big water change...

Sorry that another one died but maybe things will look better tomorrow.

I'm concerned that the fish seem to die after a water change. It makes me
wonder about the water chemistry (which would affect the duboisi more than
the other fish). I'll be interested to see if the Epsom Salts helps the
fishes' behavior, if you get around to trying that. I really think it might
help.

Save the Maracide for later. You can use it instead of Quick-Cure on
sensitive species or both together when desperate. The old formula (with
di-bromo hydroxy mercuroflourescein blah blah blah) was quite effective. I
have my doubts about the new formula that they started using last year.

I used the quick - cure today.....and it does seem to
bring them around a bit. Before I used it, but after
the water change, another one bit the dust....
