When I heard Wattley speak at the ICC in... 1991? (so long ago...) he mentioned airating the porcelain bowls. To his credit he never claimed he invented the method. Wayne Leibel's article mentions some breeders figuring out about the feeding-off-the-parent thing in the late 1950's and doing the artificial thing in the early '60s. Using the airstone is clever. He has had a lot of disciples, though, like so many discus breeders in the Far East. Still, if it were me, I'd let the babies feed off the parents. I've seen this in some other cichlids, too, but discus are definitely the leaders here. ANd, today's hobby discus derives from generations raised this way in captivity.
