Just read an old thread on apc: http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/lighting/34368-ah-supply-55w-enough.html Based on this, one should be able to put a 55w bulb in that fixture. - Erik On Wed, 21 Oct 2009, Hostetter, Kypros wrote:
I think 55 watt straight pin bulbs do fit in coralifes On Wed, Oct 21, 2009 at 5:21 PM, Erik Olson <erik@thekrib.com> wrote:The bulb in that fixture was 65 watt, which is less common than the slightly-shorter 55 watt. Maybe that's what they meant by "phasing out"? Odds are that you might be able to sub in a 55 watt bulb. - Erik On Wed, 21 Oct 2009, Shango Los wrote: Are you suggesting these other bulbs will fit my Coralife fixtures?Compact fluorescent, 4 pin straight? I still wonder what is next though because there has got to be something, right? I agree that Metal Halide seems way overkill for a freshwater tank. My plants would be insane though. As far as I know, the main otheroption is Metal Halide, but that’s not practical (or necessary) for most people. I thought LED was in the future too. You certainly dont have to buy Coralife bulbs though. I have been happy with my CFL bulbs from AH supply and have also used GE 9325k CPL bulbs (in conjunction with another bulb, like a 6500 or 6700k). Not all people like the slightly pink hue of the 9325K but it makes my rainbow fish absolutely glow. I have been told by two sources that the bulbs for my compact fluorescent lights are being phased out by Coralife. They have already stopped making some sizes and pin styles. SO, I would like to know what the next generation of light is going to be because I may be needing to get something new soon and will obviously be going to a new technology. I'm sure there are at least a few light geeks in the group who know where the hobby is headed and what has a good price/benefit ratio. I love the idea of LED but that technology doesn't seem ready for a hobbyist yet who just wants to plug and play. So what am I buying next and why?
