That way you can announce the next year's convention at the current convention and make a big deal about it, maybe even do a short presentation at the banquet to get folks pumped up about it - and most importantly give everyone plenty of time to plan vacation time, etc.

Right, this is what I've been trying to wrap my hands around & have not been able to state. We want people (SFBAAPS for example) to show real progress and evidence that they would get it all done in time. Phil's proposal that I adopted into the deadlines sent to them did NOT require the final bid or hotel to be submitted April 1, rather just a preliminiary, including a list of committee heads. Just SOMETHING in writing. And I think this is what we'd also like to see November 1st for stuff from a year from now. What I mean by "special consideration for SFBAAPS" was that if they were interested in hosting a Spring convention, by our standards, they're now out. I'd like to give them the chance if they want to take it. But I have no idea what their goal is, so it's impossible to negotiate anything with them yet. Please let me know the final text (Scott, you're the head). I will put that on the website, but will make no more arbitrary changes until then.- Erik On Wed, 6 Apr 2005, S. Hieber wrote:Ooh, I like that for a couple of reasons. Besides being slightly more generous than demanding 12 months, it gives an indication of how much time we think they might need to spend on proposal. We could even recommend submitting a draft proposal for comments from AGA somewhere between the 12 month and 9 month marks. sh --- Karen Randall <krandall@rdrcpa.biz> wrote:Whatabout suggesting that preliminary negotiations start at the 12 month mark in order to help the local organization put together a workable bid by 9 or 10 months out? Even though GWAPA, who, e.g., knew well before AGA2k3 that itwanted topropose for AGA2K4, it was not able to get a formal proposal together 12 months before AGA2K3. I suggested about 10 months figuring we'd end upallowingslippage to about 8 months, if pressed. Btw, wasn't there also a Canadian club that expressed interest in hosting a convention in 2005? sh --- Phil Edwards <biotypical@hotmail.com> wrote:I would like to see the floating deadline for the proposal be in a full year before the anticipated convention date. Right now I'm getting geared up to start working on a consortium of clubs, CAAS, CAPE, and the local NANFA chapter for a possible bid at a conference in '07 or '08.
