RE: [AGA Member] AB contest announcements

Petty? I don't think I was being petty, but I was coming to the defense of someone who didn't deserve to be personally attacked. I'm not sure why there is such a dislike of the AGA by people who post on Aquabotanic, but I believe that we all have the same focus, right? That's to get more people interested in planted tanks.

My concern is the fact that his sight while promoting planted tank is also self serving by promoting his business. As a board member of a club, we wrestled with what to do about allowing businesses become a member of our club. It's an issue we're still debating.

I don't care that Carlos is posting it - if it's an announcement, that's fine. But one post per list is more than enough in my opinion. I specifically seeing it pop up more than once in multiple sites. Although I don't have a problem, some others may not be as forgiving especially the organizations and businesses at risk. Most of us are involved in more than one organization, like you mentioned Roger, and the final intent is to get more recognition for the hobby. However, let's be honest, what's the true reason that Robert has a forum that competes with the AGA's list and the APD. Have you not noticed that the original posters on the APD have all but disappeared? One of the old venerable lists is now visited by only a few of the original posters.

Bailin
Who's going out to work in his garden. Enjoy spring like you said. :-)

Could you guys *be* any more petty?

If you received more than one copy of the recent announcement then it's
because you are on more than one mailing list and/or forum. I don't think
that qualifies as spam. I'm afraid that Carlos can't tailor his announcement
list to your membership list to ensure that you don't get more than one
announcement.

There is a distinction between an announcement and an advertisement. What
Carlos sent is an announcement.

There is a life outside of AGA. At least, I'm pretty sure there is. I would
also have a very hard time finding hidden agendas in that statement. I don't
see any conspiracies either. I am conspiracy-impaired.

On the other hand, most if not all of the people Robert listed as "outside
the AGA" (including myself) are AGA members. That's really what makes the
issue petty. We're a small community and lots of us have overlapping roles
in the community. Many of us share a common interest in not only
participating in our hobby but in promoting it as well.

I have tanks to clean, projects to build and grass that has to be mowed.
Right now the life outside AGA that concerns me most are the dandelions
popping up in my lawn and the lilacs that are about to bloom.

Enjoy yourselves. It's spring.
