Gary, I usually don't have more than one tank set aside for any species. My grow out tanks take whatever is available. I often mix species in them if they are the same size, but I always, always, make sure that they belong to 2 very different looking species - usually an ancestral form with an advanced form. My problem it that it takes about 10 years to have 3 generation go through my tanks. For example, I have a pair of A. hippolytae that produce fry and I bought them wild caught in the spring of 1997. The same goes for my A. sp. Rotpunkt (Blue-cheek). My Anomalochromis sp. Guinea are still going strong and I got them as young adults in the fall of 1997. I have reserve pairs of each of the above to replace their parents but the parent are happy and don't want to die (such a problem, huh?).
