Dave, I put very little trust in collecting locations given by commercial suppliers. Private collectors tend to be much more open. Although A. bitaeniata is not recorded from the Rio Ampiyacu itself, blackwater streams nearby are known to have this species. If your fish are over a year old, check the back edge of the caudal fin. Female agassizii will have a well rounded edge while female bitaeniata have a more squared off edge, especially at the top and bottom.
