Thanks Mike, I knew about the sex ratio part, but the 10 degree differential is what I really wanted to know. So if my tanks drop down to 74F in the night they should be fine. I think the lights on the planted tanks will do all the heating this summer. I know on my planted 60g with 192 watts of light on for 11 hours a day, sometimes I have forgot to plug the heater in after a water change and the temp would only drop to 74F overnight. I do have some nice rams in the 75g planted tanks though, I guess I will just keep an eye on them. What problems might the rams have with lower temps, I know I have been filling tanks after a water change and ran the water heater out of hot water, the tank temp has dropped down to 72F until the heater could bring it up, the rams showed no ill effects from the sudden, but temporary drop in temperature. Just remember that Römer found that apisto fry raised at 23ºC (74ºF) turned out to produce 90% or more females. If you find that your apistos decide to breed & give you fry, just raise the temperature in the fry tank to 27ºC (79ºF) for about 4 - 6 weeks & the sex ratio should turn out about equal. As for fluctuations, apistos can handle fluctuations of 10ºF (6ºC) over a 24 hour period. > > Mike Wise > > Matt & Linda Crocker wrote: > > > Does any know the temp fluctuation that our apisto's can easily withstand? I would like to turn some heaters either down or off for the summer months. All the tanks in the house are great for keeping a comfortable temp in the winter months, not so good for the summer. Most of my tanks are 78F. I have at present, Inca, Hoignei, agassizii, cacatuoides, panduro, and M. ramirezi. Would 74F be OK for everything but the rams? > > > > Matt > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- > > -- This is the apistogramma mailing list, apisto@listbox.com.
