OK, Introduction:

Hi, my name is Thomas Gonzalez. I'm a mechanical engineering
senior at the University of Texas at Austin. As for my fish introduction,
I have 3 aquariums and one extra 5 1/2 gal. nursery. Only one of my
aquariums has apistos, a 20 gal. It has a breeding pair of apistogramma
inconspicua. So far they have bred once, which is why I have the 5 1/2
gal. I would have let the mother naturally taken care of them, but I had
to go to San Antonio for the holidays and I didn't know anybody who could
take care of them. There are six fry left and they're doing pretty good.
Some small, some large. Seeing that this is my first time ever breeding
fish, I guess I'm doing alright.

I've had aquariums for about four years now. It all started
niavely when my best friend suggested a certain fish for my little ten
gallon. An oscar. It now resides in San Antonio at my parents home in a
150gal. with a green terror, jaguar cichlid(juvenile), suckermouth catfish
and a convict. They all get along fairly well. For all you parents out
there, don't freak out. All they have to do is drop in a couple of pellets
a day. I come home every once in a while to do water changes and
maintenance.

I really became interested in dwarf cichlids because I loved the
full size(South and Central American) versions. Being that I'm a college
student and living in an efficiency apartment, I can't have a very large
aquarium. The local aquarium store, Amazonia (www.amazonia.com), always
had some very beatiful planted aquariums. I knew most cichlids would tear
up the plants and also dig like crazy, so when I learned that there were
down sized versions (perfect for smaller aquariums that also wouldn't tear
up a natural type aquarium), I was introduced. I'm probably known by
Amazonia as the guy who comes and reads all the books. ( I don't think they
mind)

So that's me. I'd also like to try to breed some of the nicer
agassizis. Is this news group particular to just apistogrammas or do
ya'll(I am Texan after all) talk about other dwarf cichlid species?

Thanks,
Thomas Gonzalez
